Effective Pip Count (EPC)

Known as the Trice Count, in memory of Walter Trice; the man who invented the method. The actual pip count plus the wastage; meaning, the number of pips a player has to move in order to remove all his checkers from the board, plus the predicted loss in the bearoff stage, due to unused dice rolls. The loss is determined by the equation: (wastage) W = R* 49/6-PC (pip count); R is the number of dice rolls needed in order to remove all checkers; 49/6 is the average pip value of a roll.
